A bunch of flowers gathered from my summer garden and placed in a simple jar where the inspiration for this textile collage. I have used velvet, cotton and voile to build the picture and detail has been added with thread. The rich jewel colours and accents of darks and light cream add drama and impact .

Sloes in the hedge
Walking in north Wales I was struck by the beauty and abundance of the hedgerows. The purple black of the sloe berries so tempting but so sour inspired this picture. Autumnal tones of fabric have been collaged and stitched to create the tangled hedgerow. I wanted to invited the viewer to really look and consider the magic of our hedgerows, and their importance as places of food and shelter for so many creatures.

Margins
I began this work by hand dying a range of cotton , responding to the colours in the early autumn landscape. These were collaged and stitched on to a sturdy canvas backing , gradually building detail. The work returns to a recurring theme, the margins between land and water and between open spaces and the tangled mass of vegetation. I invite the viewer to peer through the detail and to glimpse the broader landscape beyond.

Gentle Green 2
I spend a lot of time hand dying fabrics to use in my work , trying to capture the subtle tones of nature . The greens of summer are a particular challenge. In this piece I have explored the gentle hues of green which are so evocative of England. Late summer roses lift my heart
There is a moment when you can feel summer slipping away and you begin to feel the fading of the light , it is just at this time one of the roses in my garden bursts into bloom. Blooms I know will continue until the first frosts . I wanted to celebrate the beauty of these blooms and the joy they bring me everyday. Teasels by the Ure
A walk by the Yorkshire river Ure was the starting point for this textile. The warm colours of the teasels contrasted so strikingly with the soft rain soaked landscape. I hand dyed organic cottons to represent the colours which had inspired me, layering them to build an impression and then adding embroiderd detail. The moment when spring is hovering and signs of winter still linger is the moment I have tried to capture in this picture.

Unfurling
When I walk in a beautiful place I feel my emotions slowly unfurling, tensions and worries are placed in perspective and my mind feels free to ponder. Finding the bright water
In the sound between mainland Scotland and the magical Isle of Skye are the Sandaig isles. Close by Gavin Maxwell wrote Ring of Bright Water and it is a captivating place . I journeyed there by kayak and this picture is a response to my time spent exploring these wonderful islands. It shows a small fresh water lochan with the sea and the mouth of Loch Hourn beyond.
